Primary cover:
This is a chromed Twin Cam primary cover masked in a flame design and coated with wrinkle black. This color is essentially identical to the OEM color. The gasket surface is then lapped if necessary to assure proper fit.
Derby covers:
Now you can have your engine displacement custom coated on your derby cover and other metal items. Chrome derby, horn, air and coil covers as well as engine covers can be custom coated gold or many other transparent colors to give a candy look. Just about any design can be coated over the base coated or chrome/aluminum substrate. Engine displacement, flame outlines and other designs or text are examples of what can be coated on your bike. These examples show a gold powder with wrinkle black engine displacement script as well as a few examples of designs over copper.
The gold powder is the best gold color I've found and is more striking than the gold plating I've seen on some bikes. The gold powder is coated over a chromed item and then any design, in just about any color, can be added on top of the gold.
I was so impressed with Orange County's Chopper's copper Liberty bike that I've been trying to think of ways to include copper as an accent item on Harleys. I've not been able to successfully clear coat over copper plate however. After curing, the color turns orange and when recoated with black designs, it actually turns brown. So, I've kept the copper uncoated and just polish with Semichrome or similar mild metal polish. You will find that some copper plated items won't need much polish for scratch removal but all will tarnish. This tarnish can be easily removed with Tarni Shield, a product available through the Internet. It chemically removes tarnish without much buffing and works immediately when you apply it to the copper.
When mounting coated items you may want to paint your mounting hardware gloss black which can be touched up with a small brush when these covers are mounted or removed. Powdercoating over the heads of bolts and screws doesn't work well because the thick coating changes the size of the drive so the proper tool will no longer fit. |
